Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Jill Madden currently paints and lives in Weybridge, Vermont. Inspired by the solace of mountains her canvases seek open-ended resolutions between form and feeling. The work becomes realms of imagination, built from the combination of sketches and memory. Calligraphic strokes and mark-making are equally important to her painting language.
Jill’s work has been shown in New England, New York, and Philadelphia. She graduated Cum Laude from Middlebury College with a BA in East Asian Studies and received a MFA in painting from Boston University in 1999, where she held a Constantin Alajalov scholarship. Jill received a Post Baccalaureate in Fine Arts from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, and studied at the New York Studio School. She is the recipient of a Winsor and Newton Emerging Artists award, a Basin Harbor Fellowship, and a Custom House Fellowship in Westport, Ireland.
